PROPOSAL - Malaysian indian Cultural Festival -II, Bali,
INDIAN CULTURAL FESTIVAL IN CONJUNCTION OF THE SARVADHAARI 5110th HINDU NEW YEAR CELEBRATION 2008
I) Introduction
Background
At present there has been inadequacy in the proper channels for the Malaysian Indian students abroad to be exposed to the Malaysian Indian culture and religion.
There have been many myths, confusions and misinformation about Vedic art and culture.
Preserving the Hindu religion and culture in the wake of globalization
Understanding the diversity in Hinduism practiced world wide
Appreciating the diverse culture expressing the Hindu religion
Objective
To create a common platform among Hindus for the exchange of views pertaining to cultural diversity.
To expose the Malaysian Hindu students to the art and cultural aspects of Hinduism
To dispel the myths, confusions and misinformation about Vedic art and culture.
To foster soliditary amongst the Malaysian Hindu community and the International Hindu community.
To learn and cultivate skills of Hindu art and culture.
To promote personal responsibility and self-reliance and also to help students to develop a taste towards traditional assets of the Hindu religion.
To promote goodwill among all races and religion.
Resolution
Organizing Indian Cultural Festival in Conjunction of the Hindu New Year Celebration.
Indian Cultural Day will cover aspects of the Indian Hindu art, culture ,education and Dharma.
Education- Forum and workshops
Background – Due to limted acess to vedic literature and many other compilation of Hindu philosophy,many hindus are misinformed or rather misinterpreted by certain quarters.This certainly leaves a dent in hindu education and practice.
Rationale – The forum consisting of panel of good hindu intellectuals from international society from India,Malaysia and Indonesia will give a valid platform to express,discuss and share a thought on hindu philosophy.In the era of globalization, there is much need to make the hindu philosophy applicable in ones daily life without compromising the culture,this forums will act serve this purpose
Dharma - The fundamental of hindu religion is no other than Dharma.Hinduism is also popularly known as dharmic religion.In order to serve this Dharma appropriately, a major fundraising for a foundation that is funding the education of the the poor hindu students throughout Indonesia.This fundraising will be held during Grand Cultural night consisting of 2 hours of solid Indian and bali cultural performance .The night will showcase Bharatanatyam,Balinese dance,traditional Indian dance,traditional Indian percussion/string performance and many more which will also serve as a grand finale the Indian cultural festival
Art – Kolam Competition
Background – Kolam is an ancient Hindu art that transcends time. Kolam comes in various designs and techniques of making. It is an art form which requires the artist to make impressions of ancient Hindu symbols and significance (eg. peacock, flowers, and conch) on the ground.
Rationale – In this competition, the participants are required to use colored rice to create a Rangoli Kolam. Participants can know about the art of kolam-making through this competition.
Art – Thoranam Competition
Background – Thoranam is an ancient Hindu ornaments made from coconut leaves. It is primarily used for important and auspicious Hindu functions such as Hindu New Year and Deepavali.
Rationale – Through this competition, participants can learn and sharpen their skills of thoranam-making. This art is promoted and preserved this way.
Culture – Hindu traditional games
Background - Physical perfection has been an integral part of Hinduism. Religious rites provided the needed impetus to physical culture in ancient India. Many of the present day Olympic disciplines are sophisticated versions of the games involving strength and speed that were common in ancient India. Festivals and local fairs are the natural venues of indigenous games.
Rationale – The games in this competition such as Kabbadi serve as special efforts to preserve and nurture the awesome cultural heritage, by setting up a number of new initiatives, and by heightening media exposure at the national level, to propagate and popularize indigenous games.

Event : Grand Nite of Hindu New Year Celebration collobration with local hindu.
Event that will be taking place ‘Indian traditional dance’, bhajans, Hindu traditional dance from Bali and Malaysia students,Traditional 2 piece percussion/string instrument performance.
